WAVE OnCloud Gateway Setup

This section provides instructions for the initial setup and configuration of the WAVE OnCloud Gateway hardware required to integrate supported radio systems. This section is identical to the instructions received in the box with your WAVE OnCloud Gateway and is provided as a copy for troubleshooting purposes.

General Network Requirements

The WAVE OnCloud gateway requires wired network access to both the customer’s radio system and the WAVE OnCloud service running in the AWS Cloud. In order for the service to work properly, the following ports need to be opened OUTBOUND on the Customer Network. These ports allow the WAVE OnCloud Gateway (WOCG) device to connect to WAVE OnCloud servers and the radio system on the local network.

The following ports and their associated URL must be opened OUT/IN BOUND only.  If you have questions about the URL you should use for a port, then contact support for further instructions.

  • Port 25021 (TCP):
    Required by the WAVE OnCloud Gateway to connect to the WAVE Oncloud voice services.

  • Port 8883 (TCP):
    Required for secure MQTT messages over TCP/UDP port to the AWS IOT Service for device management.

  • Port 443 (TCP):
    Required for the WAVE OnCloud Gateway to connect to the WAVE OnCloud Service.
    Associated URLs: any entry in the *.poc01.waveoncloud.com subdomain.

    Required for Splunk to update log level configuration.

WAVE OnCloud Gateway Network Requirements
  • Port (Master Repeater Port) UDP – OUTBOUND)
    This is the port the master repeater is using for Link Establishment and needs to be opened from the WOCG to the radio system. This is unique to each radio system.
  • Port 50100 UDP – INBOUND (Gateway Link Establishment Port)
    This is the port that will be used by the repeaters to communicate with the WOCG and need to be opened inbound from the radio system to the WOCG.
Broadband Client Requirements
  • Port 443 (TCP):
    Required for WAVE Mobile client (android, iOS etc.) and Web Communicators to connect to the servers from anywhere.
  • Port 4502 (TCP):
    Required for WAVE Mobile client (android, iOS etc.) to connect to the voice servers from anywhere.
Bandwidth Requirements

The network needs to at least 1 Mbps dedicated to the WAVE OnCloud Gateway.

Step 1: Upgrade Radio Repeaters

Skip this procedure if you have already upgraded your radio repeaters to version R02.07.00.04. Additionally, you may run an older version of the repeater firmware if the radio system includes an active NAI Voice license.

  • Repeater firmware is available on Motorola Online and is version R02.07.00.04.
  • Firmware upgrade is performed through the Device > Update option in CPS.

Note: Radio Systems are sold through a Dealer network and it is the Dealer’s responsibility to upgrade and maintain the system. If you require an upgrade, contact your Dealer. Repeater upgrade required without NAI Voice license.

Step 2: Connect the WAVE OnCloud Gateway

  1. Unpack the WAVE OnCloud Gateway hardware
  2. Plug the Ethernet (LAN) cable into the back of the OnCloud Gateway and plug the other end into an active Ethernet jack. This connection must be Internet-routable and able to reach https://aws.amazon.com/
  3. Power on the WAVE OnCloud Gateway.
  4. The WAVE OnCloud Gateway comes equipped with a WiFi connection for initial configuration. Login to a PC with WiFi capability. Ensure WiFi is turned on. Click the Wireless icon in the lower right corner.A list of available connections appears. Search for the following WiFi SSID (Service Set Identifier):
    WIFI Password:  MotoGateway
  5. Connect to the WiFi SSID using MotoGateway as the Password.
  6. Open a web browser on the PC and enter (For Dell 3050 Gateway hardware).
    Note: Use (for older Dell 3040 Gateway hardware)
    The WAVE OnCloud Gateway main interface opens in the web browser.
    Important: Record the Gateway Device Code now. You will need this code to associate the WAVE OnCloud Gateway with your radio system. Ensure you store the code in a safe location
  7. If you see a red X thru network card configuration, click the link- Network Card Configuration.
    The Change IP Address page opens.
  8. By default, the WAVE OnCloud Gateway will attempt to obtain a DHCP IP Address from your local network. Optionally, if you need to configure a Static IP Address, click Static IP Address and set the following options:
  9. Click the Save button when you are done.

To proceed with the rest of Broadband and Radio Configuration and Setup see: Quick Start – Broadband. You will need the Broadband steps to configure WAVE OnCloud for testing. After that you will proceed to Quick Start – Radio Integration to complete radio setup.
