Talkgroups in WAVE provide options for controlling how Users can communicate. These options are configured by User and accessed through the Users menu.
To access the Talkgroups page for a User
- In the menu, click the Users button.
- In the TALKGROUPS column, click the Manage > link for the user to edit.
The Editing Talkgroups for ‘User’ of ‘Type’ page opens.
- Select the options for a Talkgroup in the TALKGROUP NAME column.
- Click the SAVE button to save your changes or click the CANCEL button to discard your changes.
Options include the following:
- TALKGROUP NAME
Selected Talkgroups are currently assigned to the User. Clearing a selection removes the Talkgroup from the User.
Identifies the Type of the Talkgroup. The Type of a Talkgroup is specified on the Talkgroups page.
A Standard Talkgroup may be used by anyone.
A Broadcast Talkgroup may be assigned to any user but only a Broadcaster assigned to that Talkgroup may transmit. Non-Broadcast Users assigned to a Broadcast Talkgroup can listen only.
A Dispatcher Talkgroup must be assigned to a Dispatcher User. Dispatcher Users communicate via the WAVE Dispatch application which runs through a browser. For more information see Adding WAVE Dispatch Users and Talkgroups.
- CALL INITIATE
Specifies the ability of the User to initiate a Private Call over the Talkgroup. If set to Don’t Allow then the user can receive Private Calls but cannot initiate Private Calls.
- CALL RECEIVE
Specifies the ability of the User to receive Private Calls over the Talkgroup. If set to Don’t Allow then the user can initiate Private Calls but cannot receive Private Calls.
- IN CALL
Specifies audio transmission capability (PTT) over the Talkgroup. If set to Listen Only, then the User cannot transmit over the Talkgroup. Talk + Listen is the default setting allowing the User to transmit and receive over the Talkgroup.
- SHARE LOCATION
Specifies the transmission of the User’s location information over the Talkgroup. This option is selected by default and may be overridden locally if Location Services on the Mobile device is turned off.
A Supervisor on a Talkgroup has priority over non-Supervisors and automatically gain the floor when transmitting. If a non-Supervisor is transmitting when a Supervisor transmits, the Supervisor’s audio will override the non-Supervisor’s audio. This allows Supervisors to interrupt other users.
Specifies the Broadcaster of a Talkgroup. Only Broadcasters may transmit over a Broadcast Talkgroup. Broadcast Talkgroups require at least 2 users.
Creating Talkgroup Types
Talkgroup Types currently consist of Standard, Broadcast, and Dispatcher. Talkgroup Types can only be specified at creation time and cannot be changed later. If you need a different Talkgroup Type with the same name then delete the existing Talkgroup and recreate it with the same name.
When you add a Talkgroup in the Talkgroups page by clicking the plus icon, three options appear:
Select the type of the Talkgroup, Provide a name at the top, and optionally select a Radio System. Then click the green checkbox.
Creating Users of a Specific Type
User Types currently consist of MOBILE OR TABLET, TRBO CLIENT, WAVE DISPATCH. Types can only be specified at creation time and cannot be changed later. If you need a User of a different Type with the same name and information, then delete the existing User and recreate it with the same name.
When you add a User in the Users page by clicking the ADD USER button, three options appear:
Click the User Type button and then fill out the required information to complete the creation of the user.
Understanding User Types
- MOBILE OR TABLET
Standard users on Mobile devices (with a Cellular connection and phone number) or on Tablet devices (WiFi Only). Mobile or Tablet Users may be assigned to any Talkgroup.
- TRBO CLIENT
For users of MOTOTRBO radios.
- WAVE DISPATCH
For users of the WAVE Dispatch client that is installed as a browser plugin. Dispatchers can only be assigned to Talkgroups of type Dispatcher or Broadcast.
